The Nupe are an ethnic group native to North Central Nigeria. They are the dominant ethnic group in Niger State and a minority in Kwara State. The Nupe are also present in Kogi State and The Federal Capital Territory.

What are the Nupe people known for?
Traditions, art, and culture, but these traditions are dying out in certain areas. Their art is often abstract. They are well known for their wooden stools with patterns carved onto the surface.

The Nupe are noted throughout Nigeria for glass beads, fine leather and mat work, brass trays, and fine cloth. The Nupe live in villages or towns ranging in size from a few families to several thousand people. Each village is governed by a chief, with the advice of a council of family heads.
The chief controls community land resources, settles disputes, and organizes all large-scale cooperative activities. The indigenous Nupe kingdom was divided into four zones for purposes of government, with a series of ranked officials who owed allegiance to the king, the Etsu Nupe.
