Longtime Washington DC anchor, Wendy Rieger lost her battle with cancer on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at the age of 65.

In a statement to announce her death, it was mentioned that she had been battling brain cancer for almost a year.

She was diagnosed with glioblastoma last summer and retired in December. Following the news of her retirement, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser declared December 17, 2021, Wendy Rieger Day in the District.

In July 2021, Rieger announced that she underwent brain surgery to remove a tumour and was getting treatment at Johns Hopkins. Several months later, she had open-heart surgery to fix two heart conditions.
A lot of her fans are pouring out their condolences to the family as they mourn her.
