Former Ghanaian professional footballer Asamoah Gyan has emphasized that he and Andre Ayew are not friends but rather teammates who share a strong understanding of the field.

Gyan and Ayew have been teammates in the national team for more than ten years, participating together in numerous Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and FIFA World Cup tournaments.
Despite persistent reports of tensions between the two, there has been no concrete evidence of any fallout between Gyan and Ayew.
Rumors intensified prior to the 2019 AFCON when coach Kwasi Appiah replaced Gyan as the captain of the Black Stars, appointing Ayew as his successor.

Discussing his relationship with Ayew, Gyan mentioned that while they maintain a cordial rapport, they don’t extend their bond beyond the pitch and are not friends outside of football.
In an interview on Atinka TV, Baby Jet said “I usually say Andre is my teammate. Sometimes people misjudge. He’s a teammate that I talk to and laugh with, but we have friends.”
“Friends are people that you share secrets with. Andre is a teammate that I relate well with in camp and we have teamwork on the field but it doesn’t make him my friend.
“But people have created an unnecessary rivalry and that’s okay. At the end of the day, I also have people that go out with and work with. They are my friends. But when we’re in the same team, we’re teammates,” Gyan added.
