He was acquired by the Kandy Falcons in July 2022 for the third Lanka Premier League season.
Wanindu was named to the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year and the ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Year in the annual ICC Awards in January 2022.
Wanindu produced match-winning all-around efforts against Bangladesh and Pakistan at the 2022 Asia Cup, capturing 3 wickets for 21 runs.
Wanindu is the second player, after West Indian Carlos Brathwaite, to record 30-plus runs and three-plus wickets.
