Wagner Maniçoba de Moura is a multi-talented Brazilian artist who has worked as an actor, director, filmmaker, musician, and journalist. He was born on June 27th, 1976. He began his career in theater in Salvador, working with renowned directors, and subsequently progressed to minor roles in films.

His breakthrough occurred in 2003 when he received his first main roles in films, as well as a big role in Carandiru, which helped him acquire prominence in the Brazilian cinema industry.

Wagner Moura made a conscious decision to broaden his horizons and break into Hollywood after rising to prominence in Brazil’s film industry. Together with well-known performers like Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, he was cast in the 2013 picture “Elysium,” but despite the movie earning over $286 million at the box office, it didn’t quite live up to the hype.
Moura was still given exposure in Hollywood and was given opportunities as a result, nevertheless. He was going to play the lead in “The Magnificent Seven,” but he had to reschedule.
One of Moura’s most well-known roles to date came in the Netflix series “Narcos,” in which he played the notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar. From its third season until the show’s conclusion in 2017, he acted as the show’s protagonist.
In the spin-off series “Narcos: Mexico,” Moura repeated his role as Escobar, and the critics praised the show highly, especially Moura’s portrayal of Escobar. He put on more than 18 kg and took a specialist language school to hone his Spanish for the role.
Moura received nominations for an Imagen Foundation Award and the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series Drama for his portrayal of Escobar. Moura’s performance was lauded by critic Neil Genzlinger as being “inscrutably magnificent at the core of it all.”

Ultimately, Moura’s success in “Narcos” assisted him in making a name for himself in the global entertainment industry and solidified his standing as one of Brazil’s most gifted performers.
