The registration portals for BECE candidates opened on Monday, March 11, 2024, and will close on Friday, April 19, 2024. BECE exams are scheduled to take place from Monday, July 8 to Friday, July 12, 2024.

WASSCE examinations are set to commence on Monday, August 5, 2024, and conclude on September 27, 2024. Similarly, the General/Advanced Business Certificate Examination (G/ABCE) is slated to occur from Friday, August 2, 2024, to Monday, September 2, 2024.

John Kapi, the Head of Public Affairs, National Office, WAEC, revealed these details at a press conference in Accra, emphasizing that the registration site for the G/ABCE opened on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, and would close on Friday, April 19, 2024.

Kapi highlighted the changes in examination formats, especially for BECE candidates, due to the introduction of the common core curriculum. School candidates will now be examined based on the new curriculum, while private candidates will follow the old syllabus.

For BECE, the registration fee per candidate is GH¢214.01, while the WASSCE registration fee for entry in seven to nine subjects is GH¢465.00, excluding fees for practical or oral tests.

Private candidates for WASSCE will have a registration window from Friday, October 25, 2024, to Wednesday, December 18, 2024. The registration portal will be operational from April 2 to August 30, 2024.

Despite changes in the examination period, the standards remain consistent, according to Kapi. He emphasized that WAEC exams are available only to students in their third or final year of regular Senior and Junior High School.

Kapi also addressed reports of students from public schools moving to private schools for registration, emphasizing that WASSCE students seeking grade improvement in one or more subjects should register as private candidates.

WAEC has made adjustments to accommodate candidates with special educational needs and conducted inspections of schools requesting accreditation for examination presentation to ensure test security.
