Her family, initially fearing that she had been taken hostage by Hamas militants, received the devastating confirmation of her death on November 13, 2023.

Global Affairs Canada conveyed the somber news, stating, “It is with deep sadness that the Government of Canada has learned that Canadian-Israeli citizen Vivian Silver is deceased.” The agency pledged ongoing support and assistance to Silver’s grieving family during this difficult time.

Five separate sources, including one close to the family and representatives from the Israeli government, corroborated the news of Silver’s demise to Global News Canada. Her remains were discovered in Be’eri, identified five weeks after the attack that led to her abduction.

When Israeli responders arrived at Silver’s residence, they found it burned and gutted. Despite the absence of a body or signs of struggle, the assumption was that she had been abducted. The uncertainty surrounding her fate persisted until her remains were identified five weeks later.
