The couple had five girls and a boy.
Dan Davis
Dan used to work as a horse groomer, but he had been physically abusive of his wife, Mae.
Viola Davis’s memoir, “Finding Me,” follows the story of how Dan physically and emotionally abused her mother. It took a long time before she was able to forgive him.
Dan passed away in 2006, after battling with pancreatic cancer.

Mae had worked in factories as a maid and had suffered abuse in the hands of her husband. She had always supported Viola in her career right from her youth.

Viola Davis is an actress and producer, who has become the most-nominated black actress in Oscar history.
Davis launched her career by appearing in small theater productions and in 1999, she won an Obie Award, for her role in the film Everybody’s Ruby.
Her breakthrough came in 2008 when she played the role of a troubled mother in the movie Doubt.
Since then, Davis has starred in several films and television series including King Hedley II, Fences, The Help, How to Get Away with Murder, Suicide Squad, and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
The award-winning actress has bagged several awards and nominations for her work on television.
