He is the son of Al Testaverde and Josie Testaverde. His father Al Testaverde grew up in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and worked 41 years as a mason.

Al supported his son throughout his son’s career. He was present when Vinny won the Heisman Trophy awarded annually to the nation’s top collegiate player and at the Cadillac NFL Golf Classic holding a Jets helmet the day Vinny signed with Gang Green.

His father suffered a heart attack at Tampa Stadium when his son played for the Buccaneers. Because of the emotional burden, doctors ordered him not to watch Vinny play.

During Vinny’s amazing 1998 season, when the quarterback hushed his detractors and led the Jets to the AFC title game, Al Testaverde waited expectantly for his nephew to deliver a tape of the games to his Elmont, L.I., house so he could watch the next day.
