Vincent Gil, the Australian actor best known for playing The Nightrider in the original 1979 film has died at age 83.

While there are disputes concerning his marital life, as to whether he was married, there are no disputes regarding his children. Gil had no children.
Gil’s friend and Mad Max co-star Paul Johnstone, who played Cundalini in the movie, shared the sad news via Facebook on Sunday, August 21, sharing a recent photo of the two men posing arm-in-arm.

Gil was born in Sydney in 1939 and he landed his first role in 1966. He worked until the early Noughties in Australian TV and film, with roles in shows such as Neighbours and Matlock Police.
He starred opposite Mel Gibson in Mad Max as Crawford Montazano AKA Nightrider, who was a member of Toecutter’s (Hugh Keays-Byrne) motorbike gang.
That is not all. Gil also starred in many Australian television shows such as Matlock Police, Neighbours, A Country Practice and Prisoner. Gil also acted in theatre roles from his debut in the industry 1963 until 2007.
He died on 21 August 2022, at the age of 83.
