Vincent Friell, Actor from Restless Natives, Passes Away at 64

Actor Vincent Friell, best known for his role in the cult classic film Restless Natives, has passed away at the age of 64.

Friell’s death was confirmed by his agent on April 16, 2024. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, he had a notable career in both film and television.

Aside from his memorable performance in Restless Natives, released in 1985, Friell appeared in well-known productions such as Trainspotting, The Angel’s Share, and television series like Still Game and Rab C Nesbitt.

Director Carter Ferguson, who collaborated with Friell on the romantic comedy Fast Romance, paid tribute to him on social media, describing him as “a lovely, funny, talented guy.”

Ian Pattison, the creator of Rab C. Nesbitt, fondly recalled Friell’s appearance on the comedy in 1992, expressing shock at his passing and highlighting his respected status among colleagues.

Friell’s agent, Claire Murray of Brennan Artists, praised him as “a hugely respected actor within the Scottish theatre, TV, and film community,” noting the outpouring of love from those who admired his work and cherished him as a friend.

In Restless Natives, directed by Michael Hoffman, Friell portrayed one half of a duo robbing coaches in the Scottish Highlands. His versatility as an actor was further showcased in various roles throughout his career, including appearances in Trainspotting and Still Game.

Vincent Friell is survived by his wife Alana and their two children.
