Viktor Danilovich Saneyev was a triple jumper who competed internationally for the USSR and won four Olympic medals; three golds and one silver. He was born on October 3, 1945, in Sukhumi, Georgian SSR.

Saneyev’s first major success came in 1968 when he won at the USSR Championships and at the 1968 Summer Olympics, where on October 17 he set the World Record twice: to 17.23m and 17.39m.

Saneyev retired after the 1980 Olympics and was much congratulated well before that. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour in 1969, Order of Lenin in 1972 and Order of Friendship of People in 1976.

According to media reports, Vikor Saneyev died of a heart attack at the age of 77 at his residence in Sidney.
