The June 12 celebration, established by former President Muhammadu Buhari in June 2018, honors Nigeria’s Democracy Day in remembrance of MKO Abiola, the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election. This date has since replaced the previous Democracy Day, which was observed on May 29.
The President’s status after the fall has not been officially revealed, but the incident has undoubtedly triggered a surge of reactions and conversations among Nigerians.
