However, there was a twist in events as Johnny Depp’s own words were used against him in a wild cross-examination by Heard’s lawyers.
Johnny Depp’s own words included disturbing text messages sent to actor Paul Bettany in which the pair messaged about a plot to kill Amber.
Johnny Depp did verify to Amber’s attorney Ben Rottenborn that he had sent shocking texts to Paul Bettany in 2013.

Johnny Depp texted to his friend Paul Bettany at the time:
“Let’s drown her before we burn her!!! I will f–k her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she is dead.”

To which Paul Bettany replied:
“My thoughts entirely! Lets be CERTAIN before we pronounce her a witch.”
Amber Heard’s lawyer then asked Johnny Depp, “You wrote that about the woman who would later become your wife?” and Depp confirmed, “Yes, I did.”
However, Johhny deep had an explanation:
“The heat of the pain that I was feeling went to a dark place… Sometimes pain has to be dealt with [with] humor. Sometimes very dark humor.”
