Victoria Wood was diagnosed with oesophagal cancer in late 2015, but she kept her illness largely private.
Over several decades, Wood wrote and starred in dozens of sketches, plays, musicals, films, and sitcoms, and her live comedy act was interspersed with her compositions, which she performed on the piano.

Much of her humour was grounded in everyday life, with references to activities, attitudes, and products associated with Britain. She was known for her abilities in observational comedy and satirising social class issues.
For her 2006 ITV1 television film Housewife, she received two more BAFTA TV Awards, including Best Actress. Wood was ranked tenth in ITV’s poll of the British public’s 50 Greatest TV Stars in 2006.
On May 5, 2016, her family held a humanist funeral and cremation at Golders Green Crematorium to honour her life.
