She announced at that time she intended to continue her education at a university while competing as a professional athlete.

On July 7, 2023, Vashti Cunningham claimed her 13th U.S. high jump title with a victory at the U.S. outdoor track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Vashti Cunningham Medals

Vashti Cunningham ranked sixth in the world, has reached that mark four times in competition, including in the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar, earning her a bronze medal. She cleared 1.96 (about 6-4) at last year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo and was disappointed in the sixth-place finish.
Crushed with a 13th place finish, Cunningham knew she could do so much better, but proving it would need to wait for another year. Bouncing back, Cunningham dominated the U.S. scene in both indoor and outdoor track and field. She won gold in 2017 twice but still failed to make a mark internationally.
