Val Edward Kilmer was born on December 31, 1959, in Los Angeles, California, United States. His mother Gladys Swanette Ekstadt was of Swedish descent and his father Eugene Dorris Kilmer was an aerospace equipment distributor and real estate developer.
Val Kilmer had two siblings including Mark Kilmer and Wesley Kilmer. His younger brother Wesley, who had epilepsy, drowned in a jacuzzi at age 15. He lost his father in 1993. His parents had earlier divorced in 1968 when he was 8 years old.
