The vote had been postponed by Republicans for several months, with some expressing opposition to allocating funds abroad instead of prioritizing the US-Mexico border.

Ukraine, heavily dependent on Western weaponry, urgently requires the aid as it grapples with the challenge of countering Russia’s invasion.

Ukrainian soldiers are facing such a dire shortage of munitions that they are forced to ration shells while on the battlefield.

Separate votes were also conducted on aid packages aimed at supporting Israel and Taiwan to deter Chinese aggression, and all of them were approved.

The votes represent a politically risky maneuver by Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson to ensure the passage of Ukraine’s aid package.
