US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a security agreement on June 13 during the G7 summit, aimed at showing unified opposition to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Biden emphasized that Putin cannot outlast or divide them, indicating a firm stance against Russian aggression. Zelenskyy praised the agreement as a strong signal of American support for Ukrainian independence, calling it historic and pivotal.
“This is the most robust pact between Ukraine and the US since our independence,” Zelenskyy remarked. He highlighted its significance in ensuring global peace, underscoring the threat posed by Russia’s ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Since the onset of the war in 2022, Kyiv has forged fifteen bilateral security agreements with various nations, including the UK, France, Germany, and Italy.

Unlike other pacts, the US agreement does not mandate American military intervention in case of an attack on Ukraine.
Instead, it aims to facilitate peace negotiations with Russia, offering reassurance of support.
Notably, the agreement does not require congressional approval and could potentially be reversed by future US administrations, as noted by the Guardian.
Biden has compared the support pledged to Ukraine to that of Israel, including financial aid, military assistance, and potential joint defense initiatives.
