Ukraine claims to have eliminated an elite team of Chechen fighters who were plotting the assassination of President Volodymyr Zelensky today.

During a televised address today, Ukraine’s Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, Oleksiy Danilov, declared that the unit “which came to assassinate our President” had been annihilated.

Earlier today, Chechnya strongman Ramzan Kadyrov claimed that Chechens had been slain in Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. Kadyrov, a close supporter of Russian President Vladimir Putin, dispatched the force to Ukraine.

Danilov said the unit had been split into two groups and its movements were being closely tracked.

‘They were divided into two groups, we were tracking them,’ Danilov said on television. ‘One group was handled near Hostomel, the other one is in our sights.’

Danilov continued: ‘We will not give our President or our country to anyone. This is our land, get out of here.’

Since the Russian invasion began on February 24, there have been suspicions that Russian forces may assassinate President Zelensky. In one speech, he even stated that he was the Kremlin’s number one target for assassins.

‘I am goal number one, followed by my wife and children,’ he stated last week.

Despite the danger to his life, he has continued to show defiance and become the face of Ukraine’s resistance.
