The 32-year-old’s body was discovered on Thursday, May 16 2024 by fishermen near Senene Island. Mugaga’s family had filed a missing person report on May 14 after he disappeared from his home in Kasubi, Mengo, a Kampala suburb.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, fishermen alerted authorities after spotting a body floating at the shores of Lake Victoria. The body, identified as Mugaga’s, was found facing up.

Recovered near the body were a mobile phone, a bank deposit slip dated May 13, 2024, from Equity Bank in Mugaga’s name, and a pair of rubber blue sandals.

“The body was found in a decomposing state dressed in a dark and light blue T-shirt and a pair of assorted color shorts,” Onyango said.

Relatives identified Mugaga through missed calls to his mobile phone, with his biological brother Alex Ssebufu confirming his identity.

The body has been conveyed to Mulago City mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations into the circumstances of his death continue.
