The UFC confirmed Jimmerson’s passing on Thursday May 9, 2024 paying tribute to him as one of the trailblazers in the sport.

“Rest in peace to one of the first to ever do it, UFC 1 competitor Art Jimmerson,” the UFC shared on social media.

Jimmerson gained recognition for his participation in the groundbreaking UFC 1 tournament held on November 12, 1993.

In his memorable bout, he faced off against eventual champion Royce Gracie. Despite his boxing background, Jimmerson’s encounter with Gracie marked a significant moment in the evolution of mixed martial arts.
