Mahamudu Yahaya, a 40-year-old businessman, and Osman Abdul Razak, a 21-year-old student, were detained by authorities on charges related to the publication of false news and deceit of a public officer.

Yahaya, appearing before the Awutu Breku District Court, pleaded guilty to the charges presided over by Annir Adobor. The court has deferred his sentencing to April 14, 2024.

Meanwhile, Razak, who pleaded not guilty, was granted bail in the sum of GHc20,000 with two sureties and is expected to reappear on May 24, 2024.

According to the prosecution, Inspector Evelyn Boison, the complainants in Yahaya’s case were Mohammed Nasiru and Razak Osman, both scrap dealers residing in Tuba, a suburb of Accra. Yahaya, a resident of Kakraba Down in Kasoa, allegedly confronted the complainants, claiming that his genitals had vanished after alighting from a tricycle.

Upon lodging a complaint at the Kasoa Police Station, Yahaya was accompanied to the Mother and Child Hospital for a medical examination, which revealed no visible change in his genitals.

In Razak’s case, the prosecutor, Inspector Emelia Gyambrah, stated that Ismalia Adamu, a scrap dealer in Kasoa, filed a report after Razak falsely accused him of causing his genitals to disappear.

A medical examination at Kasoa Polyclinic later confirmed that Razak’s genitals were intact and healthy.

These arrests come amidst a series of similar incidents reported in the region, prompting the authorities to take swift action to address public safety concerns and curb the spread of misinformation.
