A tragic incident unfolded in Mankessim, Central Region, claiming the life of a 10-year-old hawker who was struck by a tipper truck while crossing the Mankessim to Cape Coast Highway.

The victim, identified as Hawa, was attempting to cross the busy road when the unfortunate accident occurred on Monday morning, May 6, 2023.
Despite efforts to rush her to the Mercy Women’s Catholic Hospital at Mankessim for urgent medical attention, she succumbed to her injuries.
Her body has since been transferred to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital Mortuary for autopsy and preservation.

The driver of the involved tipper truck, registered as GM 2312 – 21, has been apprehended by authorities and is currently assisting with investigations into the incident.
Following this tragic event, concerns have been raised by residents regarding the growing number of road accidents in the area.
Many are calling on the Highway Authority to take preventative measures, such as installing speed ramps, to curb road crashes and prevent further loss of life.
