A tragic incident occurred as a vehicle fatally struck a woman at the Okpoko Market junction along the Asaba-Onitsha express road in Anambra State.

It was reported that the accident occurred around 12:20 pm on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, involving a commercial tow truck bearing registration number XA550BMA.
The victim was reportedly crossing the road when the vehicle being towed became detached from the tow truck, resulting in the tragic death of the woman.
Charles Iyiegbuniwe, the Staff Officer for Public Education at the Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the incident, stating that the FRSC rescue team responded promptly, transporting the woman’s body to the morgue.
“At about 12:20hrs of the day, a white-coloured commercial Tow Truck vehicle with registration number XA550BMA, model ML180, was towing a vehicle at an uncontrollable speed along the axis,” Charles Iyiegbuniwe said.

“A female adult was said to be crossing the road, the vehicle that was towed got detached from the tow truck and killed the woman, while the truck continued movement.
“The FRSC rescue team came to the scene and took the woman to Toronto Mortuary. The Sector Commander Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi sympathised with the family of the deceased.
“The corps commander said that they should put themselves together as a result of this sudden occurrence.
“He warned motorists, especially the Towing Truck drivers to exercise a high level of professionalism while discharging towing operation and use standard equipment to do such.
He further stated that normal speed limit be observed by all categories of vehicles using the expressway.”
