Tracy Tormé gained fame and recognition for his significant contributions to the science fiction genre. According to his sister, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Tracy was always fascinated by the serious aspects of UFOs and the experiences of Air Force pilots who claimed to have encountered them. Although his involvement with Star Trek: The Next Generation spanned only two seasons, during which he served as a story editor, his influence played a pivotal role in shaping the series’ tone for the remaining duration.

One of Tracy Tormé’s notable career achievements was the creation of the television series Sliders, co-developed with Robert K. Weiss. The show garnered a devoted following, and when Fox decided to cancel it after three seasons, Sci Fi channel picked it up for the remaining two. Sliders, which aired from 1995 to 2000, amassed a total of 88 episodes.

In the period between Star Trek: TNG and Sliders, Tracy Tormé co-wrote the miniseries Intruders, which premiered in May 1992. While it wasn’t his first screenplay (that distinction goes to 1988’s Spellbinder), it was 1993’s Fire in the Sky that brought Tormé significant recognition in the film industry. Based on Travis Walton’s claims of alien abduction, the movie provided a chilling account of the alleged incident, benefiting from Tormé’s expertise in UFOs and sci-fi. His work earned him a nomination for the Saturn Award for Best Writing. Although Tormé’s cinematic output remained limited, he returned to the scene with a treatment of Richard Matheson’s “I Am Legend,” which later became the 2007 movie of the same name, where he received a producer credit.
Tracy Tormé’s influence extended beyond these projects, as he also contributed to The Outer Limits revival, Odyssey 5, HBO’s Carnivale, and various other ventures. Outside the realm of science fiction, Tormé showcased his writing skills on Saturday Night Live during its eighth season, honing his craft on the format he had previously worked on while writing for the Canadian sketch show SCTV. Notably, Tracy Tormé was the son of the renowned Grammy-winning musician Mel Tormé.
