Tony Goldwyn is an American actor, director, and producer. Tony Goldwyn is the son of actors Jennifer Howard and Samuel Goldwyn Jr.

His mother was active between the mid-1940s and the early 1960s. She appeared in a number of classic television shows during the American Golden Age of Television and was also a skilled watercolour and acrylic artist.

Tony Goldwyn’s father worked as a theatrical producer in London and for Edward R. Murrow at CBS in New York. Following in his father’s footsteps, he established the motion picture production companies Formosa Productions, The Samuel Goldwyn Company, and Samuel Goldwyn Films.

Tony Goldwyn’s paternal grandparents were mogul Samuel Goldwyn, a Warsaw-born Polish Jewish immigrant, and actress Frances Howard, who was born in Nebraska. Sidney Howard, a playwright, and Clare Eames, an actress, were his maternal grandparents. Maryland Governor and Senator William Thomas Hamilton was one of his maternal great-great-grandfathers.

Goldwyn attended Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts where he earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He also studied acting at New York City’s HB Studio.
