On his mother’s side, she immigrated from the town of Campobello di Mazara in the Sicilian province of Trapani. Growing up in the diverse cultural tapestry of Brooklyn, Tony Danza experienced the richness of his Italian heritage.

Raised alongside his younger brother, Matty Jr., who later became a Los Angeles restaurant owner, Danza’s early years were spent in East New York, Brooklyn. At the age of 14, his family embarked on a new chapter, relocating to Malverne, New York, situated on the picturesque Long Island.

In the inaugural episode of his television show “Teach: Tony Danza,” the actor humorously refers to himself as a “bad student” during his high school days. Despite his initial academic challenges, Danza went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in history in 1972 from the University of Dubuque. His pursuit of education was supported by a wrestling scholarship, showcasing his prowess in both academics and sports.

Tony Danza’s journey from the streets of Brooklyn to the University of Dubuque and the boxing ring of the Golden Gloves laid the foundation for his multifaceted career. Little did the “bad student” from high school know that he would go on to become a beloved figure on stage and screen, leaving an indelible mark on the world of entertainment.
