Thomas Geoffrey Wilkinson OBE was born on February 5, 1948, in Leeds, West Riding of Yorkshire, England. He was the son of Marjorie and Thomas Wilkinson. His father was a farmer¹.

Thomas Geoffrey Wilkinson OBE graduated in English and American literature from the University of Kent at Canterbury. He later graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London in 1973.
Tom Wilkinson made his acting debut in 1976 in the Andrzej Wajda-directed thriller Smuga cienia adapted from the Joseph Conrad short novel The Shadow Line.

Tom Wilkinson voiced Threarah in the BBC One series Watership Down (2018). In 2005, Tom Wilkinson was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).
Tom Wilkinson received critical acclaim for his role as a grieving father Matt Fowler, in Todd Field’s indie drama film In the Bedroom (2001).
Tom Wilkinson played Peregrine, Earl of Brockenhurst in the Julian Fellowes historical drama Belgravia (2019). Wilkinson died at his home on 30 December 2023, at the age of 75.
