Former NT administrator Tom Pauling passed away on 23 November 2023, after battling cancer. He was aged 76.

About Tom Pauling

Tom Pauling was an esteemed Australian lawyer and former Administrator of the Northern Territory.

A graduate of Sydney Law School, he was admitted to the Bar in 1969 and began his legal career with the NSW Public Solicitor.

Relocating to Darwin in 1970, Tom became a prominent barrister in Fannie Bay.

Elevated to Queen’s Counsel in 1984, he served as the Northern Territory’s Solicitor-General from 1988 to 2007.

His dedication led to his appointment as Administrator in September 2007, succeeding Ted Egan. Sworn in by Governor-General Michael Jeffery, Tom received further recognition in the Queen’s Birthday Honours of 2008, being named an Officer of the Order of Australia.

Tom passed away on November 23, 2023, at the age of 76.

Tom’s legacy is one of legal excellence and public service, leaving an enduring impact on the Northern Territory.
