Tom Gjelten works for National Public Radio (NPR) News as their religion and belief correspondent. He started off as a reporter covering labor and education issues for NPR in 1982. He has recently concentrated on national security and diplomacy while working out of NPR’s Washington, D.C., headquarters. He belongs to the Council on Foreign Relations as well.
For their coverage of the Iraq War in 2004, Gjelten and his NPR colleagues received a Peabody Award. After earning his degree from the University of Minnesota, he started working as a freelance writer and a public school teacher at Maine’s North Haven Community School.
