Toby Keith Covel was born on July 8, 1961, in Clinton, Oklahoma, United States. He was born to Hubert Keith Covel Jr. and Carolyn Joan Ross Covel. He has a sister Tracy Covel and a brother named Tonni Covel. He lost his father in a car accident on Interstate 35 on March 24, 2001.
Toby Keith went to Highland West Junior High and Moore High School, where he played defensive end on the football team. He later graduated from Moore High School. He attended Villanova University from 1979 to 1980 and has an honorary degree from them.
Toby Keith made a major breakthrough with the single “How Do You Like Me Now?!” in late 1999. He signed to DreamWorks Records Nashville in 1998. He has released 19 studio albums, 2 Christmas albums, and 5 compilation albums. As one of the best-selling musicians, he has made worldwide sales of over 40 million albums.
Toby Keith’s longest-lasting number one hits are “Beer for My Horses” (a 2003 duet with Willie Nelson) and “As Good as I Once Was” (2005). He was awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Donald Trump on January 13, 2021. He married Tricia Lucus on March 24, 1984.
Toby Keith has three children; two daughters, Shelley Covel Rowland (born 1980, adopted by Keith in 1984) and Krystal “Krystal Keith” LaDawn Covel Sandubrae (born September 30, 1985), and a son (Stelen Keith Covel, born 1997). He is a grandfather of four.
