Tippi Hedren parents: Meet Dorothea Henrietta Hedren & Bernard Carl Hedren

Tippi Hedren was born Nathalie Kay Hedren on January 19, 1930, in New Ulm, Minnesota, U.S. Her father, Bernard Carl Hedren, ran a small general store in the small town of Lafayette, Minnesota, and gave her the nickname “Tippi”.

Tippi Hedren’s paternal grandparents were Swedish immigrants, while her mother, Dorothea Henrietta Hedren (née Eckhardt), was of German and Norwegian descent.

Tippi Hedren’s first feature film appearance after Marnie was in the 1967 film A Countess from Hong Kong. From 1970 to 1971, she guest-starred twice on The Courtship of Eddie’s Father.

Tippi Hedren became an actress after she was discovered by director Alfred Hitchcock while appearing in a television commercial in 1961. Hedren made her unofficial film debut as “Miss Ice Box” in the musical comedy The Petty Girl.

Tippi Hedren has appeared in over 80 films and television shows, including Charlie Chaplin’s final film A Countess from Hong Kong (1967), and the existential comedy I Heart Huckabees (2004).

In 1982, Tippi Hedren co-starred with Leslie Nielsen in Foxfire Light and has appeared in several television series, including Hart to Hart in 1983 and Tales from the Darkside in 1984.
