South African politician who served as the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police from 2019, Tina Joematt-Pettersson has died.

Tina died on June 5, 2023, at her home in Rondebosch, Cape Town, as confirmed by ANC chief whip in Parliament, Pemmy Majodina.

Her death follows an allegation of extortion in which she, Pemmy Majodina and Richard Dyantyi, the chairperson of Parliament’s section 189 committee into the fitness of suspended Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane were implicated.

The three are alleged to have asked Mkhwebane’s husband for a bribe of R600,000 to inquire go away.
On April 7, 2021, Tina became a member of the Adhoc Committee of Section 194 Enquiry, which will determine if Public Protector Bussisiwe Mkhwebane should be removed from office or not.
