American former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher Timothy Wakefield was born on August 2, 1966. He played 19 seasons in MLB. Wakefield started his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, but he is best known for his 17-year stint with the Boston Red Sox, from 1995 until his retirement in 2012 as the team’s longest-serving player. Wakefield was the oldest player still playing in the major leagues at the time of his retirement.

On September 13, 2011, Wakefield defeated the Toronto Blue Jays to win his 200th career game. With 186 career victories, Wakefield is third all-time in the Red Sox franchise after Cy Young and Roger Clemens. He is second among Red Sox pitchers all-time in wins at Fenway Park with 97, trailing only Roger Clemens’ 100 victories there. He also has the most innings pitched of any pitcher in Red Sox history.
