TikTok Ban: Why is TikTok getting banned? Is TikTok going to be banned?

Popular social media app, TikTok is currently facing severe heat from government officials in the United States and might possibly be banned if things take a serious turn.

On Thursday, March 23, 2023, CEO Shou Zi Chew tested before the United States Congress in a hearing that took over five hours, packed with questions and references from various angles.

Members of the United States House Committee on Energy and Commerce claim that there are potential national security concerns because  ByteDance, which is the parent company of TikTok, is in bed with the Chinese government and it might be pushed to share information on user data with the government.

A member of the committee, a Republican named Neal Dunn asked Chew if the parent company ByteDance has plans of “spying of American citizens,” which Chew retorted that spying is an inappropriate word to describe the situation.

A Democrat from California named Tony Cardenas if TikTok should be considered a Chinese company, he responded that;

TikTok is a global nature, not available in mainland China, and headquartered in Singapore, and Los Angeles.
