Thomas Augsberger, the founder of Eden Rock Media, a seasoned producer, and an esteemed international media consultant, passed away unexpectedly on November 28, 2023, at his residence in Hollywood Hills. He was 60 years old.

Originally from Germany, Augsberger, a trained attorney, provided counsel to numerous high-profile media clients throughout his career, with a notable association with Germany’s Leonine Studios. Prior to his involvement with Leonine, Augsberger served as an advisor to Dr. Herbert Kloiber’s Tele Muenchen Group for 23 years, acting as the exclusive North American representative for TMG in the United States.

In 2002, Augsberger established Eden Rock Media, a company specializing in film and television production, as well as media consulting.

A highly respected figure, Augsberger was renowned for his extensive expertise in the production and acquisition of feature films, television series, and content libraries. His contributions included investments in U.S. distributors and production companies, co-financing and co-production arrangements, and distribution negotiations for film, television, and digital projects. Over his 26-year consulting career, Augsberger played a crucial role in acquiring numerous film and TV projects as pre-buys, including Marvel’s Iron Man franchise, Voltage’s Academy Award-winning “The Hurt Locker,” Paramount’s “Shutter Island,” Summit’s Twilight franchise, Lionsgate’s John Wick franchise, “Knives Out,” and the immensely successful “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” which recently surpassed $200 million in global revenue. His recent accomplishments also include pre-buys for Lionsgate’s upcoming films “Borderlands” and “Ballerina.”

In the realm of television, Augsberger curated and licensed German-speaking rights for series such as “Flashpoint,” “Anger Management,” and “The Night Manager.” He oversaw various TMG investments in the U.S., including a preferred equity investment in Lionsgate Entertainment in 1999 and the acquisition of the Mutual Film Library in 2006.

Agsberger’s role as a producer extended to developing and producing over 15 independently financed feature films, often collaborating with first-time writer/directors. Some notable projects include “Incident at Loch Ness,” written and directed by Zak Penn and starring Werner Herzog; “Waiting,” written and directed by Rob McKittrick and featuring Ryan Reynolds and Anna Farris; “Mr. Brooks,” co-written and directed by Bruce Evans and starring Kevin Costner; “Tucker & Dale vs. Evil,” co-written and directed by Eli Craig and starring Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk; and “Solace,” written by Sean Bailey and Ted Griffin, directed by Afonso Poyart, and featuring Anthony Hopkins, Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Abbie Cornish.
