Dispelling concerns about a potential reduction in aid and development assistance to Ghana, the World Bank Group clarified that the institution’s relationship with the country remains steadfast.

Speculation had arisen regarding possible financial challenges for Ghana following the passage of the bill, with warnings from the Finance Ministry about the potential loss of over $3 billion in World Bank funding for various programs and projects.

However, a spokesperson from the World Bank emphasized that the institution does not view the passage of the bill as a reason to alter its cooperation with Ghana on development programs.

The partnership between the World Bank and the Republic of Ghana, the spokesperson reiterated, remains productive.

“The World Bank Group has a longstanding and productive relationship with Ghana,” the spokesman affirmed.

In response to inquiries regarding the bill, the World Bank stated that it does not comment on specific legislation until it is signed into law.

“The Bill has not yet been signed into Law. We generally do not comment on Bills,” the spokesperson noted.

As the situation unfolds, it remains uncertain whether the World Bank will take any punitive measures if the bill is fully enacted. However, for now, the institution’s commitment to its partnership with Ghana remains unchanged.
