Terry Holland UVA Wins: How many wins did Terry Holland have at UVA?

On April 1st, 1974, Terry Holland was named the University of Virginia’s men’s basketball team’s head coach. Ralph Sampson, the top-ranked high school basketball player in the country, was recruited during his stint as coach.

Sampson later joined the Cavaliers and went on to win three consecutive national collegiate player-of-the-year awards. In addition, Holland guided Virginia to two appearances in the Final Four (1981 and 1984), a victory in the 1980 National Invitation Tournament, and two Coach of the Year accolades from the Atlantic Coast Conference.

He was also in charge of Virginia’s first of three ACC tournament victories in 1976. Due to his coaching successes, Holland had a 326-173 winning record at Virginia, making him the most successful men’s basketball coach in school history.

Tony Bennett finally eclipsed Holland as the most successful men’s basketball coach at Virginia in 2023.
