In a recent interview with the New York Times, Tems revealed that she had to undergo surgery and spend six months recuperating, which pushed back the album originally slated for 2021.
Tems, who gained prominence in 2020 after featuring on Wizkid’s hit song “Essence,” explained that instead of her debut album, she released her second extended play, “If Orange Was a Place.”
She shared that her battle to regain health inspired some of her new music, which focuses on accepting life as a warrior. However, she did not specify the illness that required surgery.

Tems said:
“Being a warrior is about not giving up; even if they cut your leg, you walk on your knees, you fight on your knees using what you have — and that’s good enough.”
It is worth noting that On June 7, Tems’ eagerly awaited and highly anticipated debut album, “Born In The Wild,” will be released.
The same month, she will begin her first global headline tour
