It was during these formative years that Teemu discovered his love for hockey, bandy, and association football, excelling in each sport with the encouragement of his parents.
Despite facing challenges along the way, including his parents’ divorce in the late 1980s, Teemu remained focused on his goals and continued to pursue his passion for hockey with unwavering determination.
As a young adult, Teemu attended business school for two years and served a mandatory one-year stint with the Finnish Defence Forces. He also spent three years as a kindergarten teacher while playing for the junior squad of Jokerit in Helsinki.
Throughout his career, Teemu remained grounded in his roots and never forgot the importance of giving back to his community.
His experiences visiting children at Helsinki’s children’s hospital inspired him to co-found the Godfathers’ Foundation, an organization dedicated to raising money for ill children.
