Tatiana Maslany is of Austrian, German, Polish, Romanian, and Ukrainian descent, and she has two younger brothers: fellow actor Daniel Maslany and animator Michael Maslany.

Tatiana was born on September 22, 1985, and was taught in German by her mother before learning English.

Her grandparents also spoke German to her as a child.

Tatiana, who speaks some Spanish, has been dancing since she was four years old and has been involved in community theater and musicals since she was nine.

She graduated in 2003 from Dr. Martin LeBoldus High School, where she participated in school performances and improvisation.

Tatiana obtained paying acting jobs in high school that allowed her to travel all throughout Canada.

Her parents were understanding, and she worked for a few months at a time before returning to school in Regina.

Tatiana stated that balancing performing and school was quite challenging.

She became well-known for her parts in the science-fiction thriller television series Orphan Black (2013–2017), for which she reportedly got $50,000 each episode.
