Who Is Susie Dent?
Susie Dent is a lexicographer, etymologist, and TV personality, known for appearing in “Dictionary Corner” on Channel 4’s Countdown game show since 1992, and making over 4,500 appearances.
Born on November 19, 1964, in Woking, United Kingdom, Dent graduated from Somerville College, Oxford, where she earned a degree in modern languages, and later obtained a Masters degree in German from Princeton University.

Dent contributes to the spin-off show 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, plus the web series Susie Dent’s Guide to Swearing,.
She has appeared on a number of TV shows including BBC’s Would I Lie to You?, House of Games, and the BBC sitcom Not Going Out.
Aside from TV, Dent has worked for the Oxford University Press, where she helped in producing English dictionaries; and later went on to write a series of yearly Language Reports for the Oxford University Press (OUP).
In 2006, Dent became vice-president of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading.
