It is also known as the Northern solstice. The June solstice year is the solar year based on the June solstice. It is thus the length of time between adjacent June solstices.

What ritual on summer solstice?

In the past, summer solstice traditions included spreading ashes from bonfires across one’s garden to bring a bountiful harvest, to wearing protective garlands of herbs and flowers to ward off evil spirits.

What happens on summer solstice?

In the summer, it marks the longest day of the year and always occurs on June 20th, 21st or 22nd. The summer solstice marks the sun’s northernmost point in our sky for the year. As a result, it is the longest day and shortest night of the year for the Northern Hemisphere.
