Henry Ulsen Alibah, the accused, pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted accordingly. However, the court deferred sentencing until May 9, 2024, providing Alibah with an opportunity to effect payment in lieu of restitution.

Presided over by Isaac Oheneba Kuffour, the court remanded Alibah into police custody until the sentencing date.

According to Police Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori-Appiah, the complainant, Michelle Frimpong Darbah, served as the Customer Service Manager at GOIL PLC’s head office in Accra, while Alibah was a student.

The incident occurred on December 6, 2023, when Alibah registered for a GO-CARD at the complainant’s office and credited it with GH¢50,000.00. Subsequently, on February 8, 2024, Alibah issued a cheque from Zenith Bank Ghana Limited, promising to withdraw the amount on February 13, 2024.

Although the card was credited as requested on February 12, 2024, the cheque was dishonoured due to insufficient funds in Alibah’s account when presented to the bank on February 13, 2024.

Following the complaint lodged by the manager, the police arrested Alibah, leading to the legal proceedings.
