Stonebwoy, the recipient of the Artiste of the Year (AOTY) award at the 25th TGMA, has responded to the discussion that arose regarding the AOTY award between himself and King Promise before the event.

During his first interview on TV3 since winning the award, Stonebwoy mentioned that he only became aware of the debate on social media about a week before the event.
The eight-time Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the Year expressed his wish that the attention given to himself and King Promise had been extended to the other nominees in the category.
He mentioned that concentrating solely on just two out of the six artists gave the impression that the other nominees hadn’t exerted much effort during the year being assessed.

“One thing I felt was like I wish the attention would be spread out across all the nominees because it was not only a Stonebwoy and King Promise thing.

“I felt that if the attention was extended to the other five or six nominees then it will now become a thing of fact. Limiting it to two artistes almost always takes away the fact that all nominees have worked and not just the two,” Stonebwoy said.
He holds the belief that fans should not be the ones to determine the top two contenders for the Artiste of the Year.
“Why I say that is that that is not for the fans to determine. The fans are only supposed to propel, propagate, project the works of the artiste under the year of review and then vote that is what I think they determine,” he added.
The dancehall musician clarified that it is solely the criteria of the Ghana Music Awards that determines the top two artists.
He stressed that the actions of the fans “bring about a sense of resentment and unhealthy competition” among the artists.
