Steven Spielberg Wife: Meet Kate Capshaw

Kate Capshaw, is an American retired actress. She is the wife of American director, screenwriter, and producer Steven Spielberg.

The couple met while working on Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984). She was raised as an Episcopalian before converting to Judaism and marrying Spielberg on October 12, 1991.  The couple was married in both a civil and an Orthodox ceremony.

Spielberg said he rediscovered “the honor of being a Jew” when they married. She studied for a year, went through the “mikveh,” the whole shebang. That, more than anything else, I believe, brought me back to Judaism.”

He attributes the family’s observance to her; “This shiksa goddess has made me a better Jew than my own parents,” he said.  Steven Spielberg and his family live in Pacific Palisades, California, and East Hampton, New York.

Kate Capshaw is best known for her portrayal of Willie Scott, an American nightclub singer and performer, in the 1984 film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, directed by her future husband Steven Spielberg.

She has since appeared in films such as Dreamscape (1984), Power (1986), SpaceCamp (1986), Black Rain (1989), Love Affair (1994), Just Cause (1995), and The Love Letter (1999).
