Steve Harwell Children: Meet Presley Scott Harwell

Steve Harwell is an American singer. He was the father of Presley Scott Harwell.

His son Presley died in July 2001 from acute lymphocytic leukemia at the age of 6 months. After the death of his son, Harwell created a medical research fund in Presley’s name.

Harwell is well known as the founder and lead singer of Smash Mouth. He and bassist Paul De Lisle have been with the band from their inception.

They are the only remaining founding members of the band. Harwell announced his retirement from public performance in October 2021.

Aside from his involvement with the band, Harwell gained notoriety after being cast in the sixth season of VH1’s reality show The Surreal Life.

Harwell was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and Wernicke encephalopathy in 2013, both of which can impair motor functions such as speech and memory, as well as heart failure. Harwell claimed that he retired because his ability to function well was hampered by these issues.

Harwell’s representative reported in September 2023 that he was in hospice care with end-stage liver failure and only had days to live.
