After winning the World Series in 2019, Strasburg’s career has taken a dramatic downturn due to injuries.

Strasburg’s injury in 2020

He started the abbreviated 2020 season on the injury list (IL) and made his debut on August 9, 2020.

Strasburg’s injury in 2021

He made two starts with the Nationals in 2021 before being placed on the disabled list on April 18 with right shoulder discomfort.

Strasburg’s injury in 2022

Strasburg was recalled from the IL on June 9, 2022, and made one start (allowing seven earned runs in 4+13 innings of work) before being sent back to the IL five days later due to a stress reaction in the ribcage.

Strasburg was sent to the 60-day IL on July 14, where he remained for the rest of the season.

Strasburg’s injury in 2023

Strasburg did not report to spring training as scheduled on February 15, 2023, due to a nerve-related setback in his recuperation from thoracic outlet syndrome.

Strasburg was forced to stop all physical exercise on June 3 owing to “serious” nerve damage.

Strasburg’s injury history

Strasburg suffered his first major injury in July 2010 and he was placed on the injured list due to an inflamed right shoulder.

He returned to action on August 10 but was forced to leave his third game back, on August 21, due to an apparent injury.

The Nationals reported on August 27 that Strasburg suffered a damaged ulnar collateral ligament, necessitating Tommy John surgery and 12 to 18 months of recovery.
