About Stephany Flores Ramirez

Five years to the day Natalee Holloway’s tragic disappearance in 2005, another young woman’s life was cut short in an eerily similar fashion.

Stephany Flores Ramirez, a 21-year-old Peruvian business student, met a grim fate at the hands of Joran van der Sloot.

Their encounter began with a poker game in a Lima casino, ultimately leading to a heartbreaking tragedy that shook the world.

Flores was not only a student but also an avid poker player. Just a few nights before her untimely death, she had showcased her talent by winning $10,000 in a poker game.

On May 30, 2010, she participated in a Texas Hold ’em tournament at the Atlanta City Casino in Lima, Peru. That evening, she assured her father that she would return home after the tournament.

Tragically, she never did. Instead, her lifeless body was discovered in a hotel room, bearing signs of a brutal beating.

Joran van der Sloot, a 22-year-old Dutch national, was no stranger to the spotlight, as he had long been suspected of involvement in the disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway.

Natalee vanished in Aruba on May 30, 2005, marking precisely five years before Stephany’s fateful encounter with van der Sloot.

According to van der Sloot’s account of that night in Lima, he and Stephany had been in a hotel room when she came across a message related to his connection to the Natalee Holloway case.

As he tried to explain the details of Natalee’s case, Stephany became distraught and attacked him. In the ensuing chaos, he struck her on the nose with his elbow and began choking her.

The result was a scene of horror, with blood staining the room and his shirt. In a desperate attempt to conceal the crime, he removed his shirt and placed it over Stephany’s face, applying pressure until her life slipped away.

According to van der Sloot, fear drove him to commit this heinous act, as he believed Stephany might report him to the authorities.

While van der Sloot would later be brought to justice for his crimes, these two young women will forever remain connected through their shared encounters with a man who brought them unimaginable suffering.
